New York in-depth
This short but very visual read is for those who want to get to know New York a little bit more in-depth or have a bit more time to spend in the city than just a few days. Check out the less touristy and more local side of New York City.
West Village Manhattan
The idyllic West Village in Manhattan has always been one of the most fashionable neighbourhoods in town. The row houses with their distinctive colonial brownstone buildings are beautiful trademarks of this pricy area. Go for a walk on its winding streets and you might bump in some of its most notable residents, among who are movie stars like Hugh Jackman, Scarlett Johansson and Julianne Moore. It’s probably one of the most densely populated celebrity areas next to Los Angeles.
The High Line
The High Line is a favourite amongst the locals. A former rail trail, it has been converted into an urban park for recreational usage. Stretching from 34th Street down to the Meatpacking District, the 2,33 km long track accommodates greenery and gardens, overlooks, food stalls and art sculptures. It is a thrilling experience to walk in the midst of the green elevated linear park, hemmed by concrete buildings and high rises. It is with no doubt a great example of urban garden design.
New York Public Library
For someone who spent a significant amount of time in their childhood at libraries, as a kid, I could only dream of seeing such an impressive collection of books one day. The main reading room of the stately library in Beaux-Arts design must be a feast for every researcher’s eye. But don’t be mislead by the historical sight. While the building and the collections may be very much antique, the library itself is well equipped with the latest digital technology, thus wonderfully combines old and new. And once you had enough of books, step out to Bryant Park to chill.
